Stockton police shoot, kill ax-wielding man who allegedly charged officers

A man armed with an ax was shot and killed by Stockton police Monday morning after officers said he confronted them outside a home.

The shooting happened in a neighborhood along Deep Cliff Way, off Houston Avenue, in the southern part of the city. Stockton police said officers shot the man after he allegedly came toward them with the weapon.

Police said the incident began around 7 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a suspicious man armed with an ax on Nevada Street, about a mile away from where the shooting ultimately occurred. The man allegedly tried to break down the door of a home but left the area before officers arrived…
