SSM Health SLU Hospital is first in Missouri to offer procedure to help doctors better visualize lung cancer during surgery

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital is the first in Missouri to offer a procedure to help doctors better visualize lung cancer during surgery.

The SSM Health Academic Hospital announced on Monday that it is the first medical center in the state to offer CYTALUX®(pafolacianine) injection as part of its oncology surgery services. The injection is an FDA-approved fluorescent imaging technology to light up the cancer during surgery.

“CYTALUX® has been demonstrated to change the operative plan in one in five patients, mostly by finding additional lesions, or by changing the amount of lung that should be resected for optimal outcomes,” says Nirmal Veeramachaneni, MD, with SSM Health in St. Louis. “We are delighted to be able to offer this technology to our patients.”…
