OHIO — As part of an effort to improve roadway safety across the state, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that a handful of areas in eastern Ohio will be getting all-way stops.
What You Need To Know
- In an evaluation, 77 intersections in Ohio were chosen to be converted to an all-way stop, which will happen over the next two years
- Two intersections have already been converted, but three others in eastern Ohio will be changed starting this month
- ODOT said there will be signs to alert drivers two weeks before the conversion
ODOT referenced data from other states showing the effectiveness of all-way stops. Since 2018, North Carolina has converted over 500 intersections with two-way stops to all-way stops, according to ODOT. Overall, the all-way stops had a 100% reduction in fatal crashes and a 95% reduction in serious injuries.
