Six years after fire, UD Chabad celebrates completion of Torah scroll for new building

There’s an old adage that compares the Jewish people to an olive, Rabbi Avremel Vogel said.

“When you squeeze that olive, that’s when you get the purest oil that comes out from it,” Vogel, who runs the Chabad Jewish student center at the University of Delaware, explained.

“When we’re in a place where it’s easy to be Jewish and there’s no problems or anything, it’s very easy to assimilate or to become lackadaisical,” he continued. “But when the squeeze comes on, there’s an adrenaline rush that comes to the Jewish people in the community. We’ve seen that firsthand in the last five years, just banding together and coming together, and it just propels even higher heights.”…
