Man Sentenced 41 Years for Longmont Shooting of Ex-Wife in Front of Children

A man who shot his ex-wife in Longmont while their children were in the car has been sentenced to 41 years in prison as part of a plea deal. 48-year-old Brandon David Allen pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder, negligent child abuse (x2), criminal mischief between $20,000 and $100,000, vehicular eluding, and one violent crime sentence enhancer.

In January 2025, Allen pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the original charges of first-degree murder, DUI, protection order violation, and prohibited use of a weapon. He struck a plea deal agreement in February and was sentenced Monday morning by Boulder County District Court Judge Thomas F. Mulvahill.

“This horrific, brutal shooting was an outrageous act of domestic violence,” said District Attorney Michael Dougherty. “The victim is lucky to be alive. It is because of her courage, and that of her kids, that she is alive today and the defendant received this lengthy sentence to state prison.”…
