FX and Hulu surprised fans on Tuesday with a brand-new episode of the hit restaurant drama series, “The Bear.”
Titled “Gary,” this special hour-long installment serves as a prequel, taking viewers back to a pivotal moment before the main story unfolds. The episode centers on Richie and Mikey-played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jon Bernthal-as they embark on a work trip to Gary, Indiana.
According to the official synopsis, “Gary” delves into the complex friendship between Richie and Mikey, revealing deeper layers of Mikey’s mental state while providing key insights into Richie’s character as audiences first encounter him in season one. This added emotional context offers a fresh perspective on their shared history.
Both Bernthal and Moss-Bachrach co-wrote the episode, which was directed by series creator Christopher Storer. Sharing his excitement on Instagram, Moss-Bachrach called the project a “dream come true,” thanking the communities of Gary, Indiana, and Chicago for their support. He also reminded fans that the episode is available on Hulu under the title “Gary,” rather than being listed within “The Bear” catalog.
Bernthal chimed in with his own Instagram post, enthusiastically endorsing the episode and urging fans to check it out, simply stating, “It slaps. Trust me.”
Following the success of season four, which premiered in June 2025, “The Bear” has already been renewed for a fifth season, much to the delight of its devoted audience.
Disney remains the parent company overseeing ABC News, FX, and Hulu.
