Convicted brothers’ request for new sentences denied by Napa County judge

(KRON) — Two brothers, who attempted to murder a family during the victims’ vacation in Napa Valley, will remain in prison after a judge denied the brothers’ request for new sentences, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Inmates Johnny Barra Jr., 50, and Josiah Cheston Barra, 48, were convicted in 1996 of attempted first-degree murder and robbery. They were sentenced to serve 14 years-to-life. This week, Napa County Superior Court Judge Scott R.L. Young struck down the brothers’ request for resentencing.

On December 30, 1995, Johnny and Josiah Barra approached three men who were strolling along Washington Street after enjoying dinner with family members in downtown Yountville, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
