City settles Frances Fortner wrongful death suit

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A wrongful death lawsuit filed against the City of Jackson in 2018 could soon be settled.

On Tuesday, the Jackson City Council approved paying the family of Frances Fortner $400,000 to resolve the ongoing case in Hinds County Circuit Court.

Fortner, a Jackson Academy senior, was on her way to graduation practice when she lost control of her vehicle after driving over a loose manhole cover on Ridgewood Road. She died as a result of the crash…
