Tango Empanadas, the North Shore trailer known for hand-made Argentinian empanadas, has quietly doubled its footprint. The sibling-run operation rolled a second yellow trailer onto Atkinson Drive this week, setting up shop across from Ala Moana Center in the grassy pickup area near the YMCA. Regulars from Kahuku and curious mall-goers now have a new excuse to wander over to the food-truck cluster for empanadas, loaded fries and Argentine sweets.
The new Honolulu trailer, at 401 Atkinson Drive, is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to Aloha State Daily. Owner Julieta Garnil told the outlet the Honolulu expansion has been in the works since last October and is designed to mirror the Kahuku menu. The report also shares photos of the trailer and the family owners at the new spot.
Menu And Prices
The Honolulu menu tracks closely with the Kahuku original. Empanadas are $6 a la carte or three for $15, and the sides now feature a revamped fries lineup, with sunset fries for $8 and classic fries for $11. Dessert leans full-on Argentine: housemade alfajores and dulce de leche cones. “My favorite is the cone, but the homemade alfajor is the most popular,” Garnil told Aloha State Daily, which also notes the cheeseburger empanada joined the lineup a few months back. Fillings range from traditional beef and chicken to pork and vegetarian options like spinach and cheese.
North Shore Roots
According to Tango Empanadas’ website, the business started with a trailer at the Kahuku Sugar Mill and continues to operate that location daily. The site lists the Kahuku address and hours, and it also points fans to Mercado De La Raza, where frozen empanadas are available for at-home reheating.
Where To Find It
The Atkinson Drive lot across from Ala Moana has grown into a casual hub for trucks and tents, functioning as a grassy courtyard with picnic seating near the YMCA. Coverage of the site has spotlighted the rotating vendors that cycle through the space. Onolicious Hawaiʻi has profiled the food-truck cluster at 401 Atkinson Drive, and delivery platforms have long listed Tango’s Kahuku menu for online orders.
