FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS tonight and Thursday morning for thunderstorms

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Although our risk is low, a strong or severe thunderstorm is possible starting tonight.

First Alert Weather Summary:

Good morning! Our next cold front gets closer to us throughout the day, which will bring an increase in cloud cover. This afternoon, we’re a tad warmer, with highs in the mid-80s.

As this cold front nears, winds will pick up, especially by this afternoon. At times, we’ll have a few wind gusts up to 20 MPH.

A First Alert Weather Day goes into effect tonight and continues into Thursday morning for showers and thunderstorms with this cold front. With any storms that form, we have a Level 1 of 5 ‘Marginal’ risk for severe weather. A couple of these storms will be capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 MPH.

Closer to Midnight, a cluster of showers and storms will arrive, bringing with it gusty winds, rain and thunder. These thunderstorms will continue overnight and into your Thursday morning commute.

As the leading edge of the cold front moves across the state, it’ll bring a line of showers and storms with it. By Thursday afternoon, this cold front begins to move offshore, taking the remaining thunderstorms with it.

Friday, we’ll briefly dry out behind this front, but rain chances will hang around Mother’s Day weekend. A few showers are possible Saturday morning, while the afternoon looks mostly dry. Mother’s Day, we’ll have another round of showers and storms.
