South LA-area school’s charter title under risk

The future of a charter school in South Los Angeles is in limbo after school district board members voted to remove its charter.

Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy is appealing the denial of its charter to the county in hopes of getting the title back. Charters are renewed every five years but back in March, the Los Angeles Unified School District board voted to deny the renewal of its charter since it was performing lower compared to neighboring schools.
