A Mobile-area shipyard has begun construction on a partner project that makes it part of the nationwide push to improve U.S. military shipbuilding.
Master Boat Builders, a family-owned shipyard in Coden, and Austal USA, a much larger shipyard in Mobile, had previously announced a cooperative effort. Master Boat says it has begun work on two hull modules for a Navajo-class ship being built at Austal.
“Starting fabrication on these modules is an exciting and proud moment for our team,” said Garrett Rice, President of Master Boat Builders. “We said we were ready to take on complex Navy work, and now we’re proving it.
