MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A Mobile family is speaking out after a 21-year-old woman was shot and killed inside her apartment, and her boyfriend is charged with murder.
Mobile Police say officers responded just before midnight on June 17 to Hillcrest Estates on Airport Boulevard, where they found Saimara Washington dead from a gunshot wound inside an apartment. Investigators arrested her boyfriend, 24-year-old Jakoby Fowler, at the scene.
What court documents say
According to court documents, a neighbor heard the couple arguing before gunshots rang out. The documents also state Fowler did not call 911, remained at the apartment for about 30 minutes before officers arrived, and later confessed to the shooting.
Fowler is charged with murder. A judge set his bond at one million dollars, despite prosecutors asking for no bond under Aniah’s Law, which allows judges to deny bond for certain violent offenses. He is scheduled to return to court Aug. 10 for a preliminary hearing and remains in Metro Jail.
