East Providence tops off new community center for residents of all ages

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The final beam of East Providence’s new community center was placed Tuesday morning as the city prepares to open the building later this year.

Construction of the building, which is across the street from East Providence High School and just behind the East Providence Senior Center, was funded through federal grants secured by Rhode Island’s congressional delegation.

Mayor Bob DaSilva said the community center will be a place for residents of all ages to stay active and engaged.

“Our senior population will be able to go in there and get exercise,” he explained. “We’re not losing the senior center. They’ll be able to walk across the parking lot, go in, and engage in other activities.”…
