Just after 4:15 Tuesday afternoon, the Joliet Fire Department responded to the intersection of Essington and Black Road in response to a report of a motor vehicle accident. Crews arrived to find a 4-vehicle accident. One vehicle had rolled over numerous times and had come to rest on its roof, with fire in the engine compartment. An off-duty Joliet firefighter from Station 5 had witnessed the accident and pulled the female driver from the vehicle. Engine 5 arrived shortly after to extinguish the fire. A second vehicle required extrication by fire department crews to remove the driver. In total, 3 patients were transported to St. Joseph Medical Center.
