The Yucaipa City Council unanimously voted on April 27 to oppose Assembly Bill 1678, legislation that would create a new joint powers authority to complete the final segment of the Metro A Line light rail extension between Claremont and Montclair. The council authorized the mayor to submit a letter of opposition or provide further direction to staff. A copy of the proposed letter was included in the agenda packet for public review.
The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) Board of Directors voted unanimously April 1 to oppose AB 1678 and has asked cities within the county to take the same position. City Manager Dr. Sean M. Moore said the measure would establish a new governing body to complete the final rail segment and bypass existing regional authority.
