Man found guilty in 1997 Mobile rape

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — A Mobile County jury has found Andre Landrum guilty of Rape First Degree, Rape Second Degree, and Burglary First Degree, announced District Attorney Keith Blackwood.

The convictions stemmed from a 1997 cold case in which Landrum broke into a Mobile County home where the victim, a 15-year-old girl, was sleeping. Evidence presented at trial showed that Landrum held the victim at knifepoint before sexually assaulting her.

Following the assault, investigators recovered male DNA evidence. At the time, however, the DNA profile did not match anyone in law enforcement databases. Years later, through continued investigative work involving Landrum, authorities obtained a DNA sample that matched the evidence recovered from the 1997 crime scene, ultimately leading to his identification and conviction nearly three decades later…
