Daphne to begin design work on $25 million indoor recreation center

DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) – The design process for Daphne’s new $25 million indoor recreation center will begin later this month. It will be constructed on the site of the Thomas Medical Center, just above Bayfront Park.

The city of Daphne bought the Thomas Medical Center building three years ago. Soon after, the Sports and Recreation Department moved into part of the building. Since then, the city budgeted $21 million to give citizens a recreation component they’ve never had.

Indoor activities

“This will provide us a place to do indoor activities that we’ve never had. I’ve been here for 25 years and we’ve always had to use school gyms and so forth to be able to do some of these indoor activities but this is going to give us a lot of flexibility to do a lot of different things we’ve never been able to do before,” said Charlie McDavid, Daphne Sports and Recreation director…
