Bear spotted on trail cameras at Land Between the Lakes

NORTHWESTERN TENN. (KFVS) – The U.S. Forest Service is warning visitors at the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area to be “bear aware.”

Officials say it appears a bear has become a permanent resident at this recreation area–specifically in the Tharpe area, located in Tennessee.

Last week, this bear was spotted on two different trail cameras.

Officials say being outdoors means being with wildlife, so if you come in contact with a bear, here are the steps you should take:

  • Do not run; remain calm
  • Group together and pick up small children
  • Face the bear and back away slowly, speaking calmly
