Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s official X account recently issued a brief but clear health update amid earlier false reports of his death. After an account prematurely declared “Rudy Giuliani is deaaaaaaaaaaad” in a jubilant tone, Giuliani’s team quickly responded with a one-word rebuttal: “Not.”
Further updates from Giuliani’s official account confirmed that he remains hospitalized. The 81-year-old former mayor was admitted to a Florida hospital on Sunday in critical but stable condition. Giuliani’s spokesperson, Ted Goodman, shared the news on X, asking for prayers for “America’s Mayor.”
Goodman provided more details on Tuesday, stating Giuliani is “recovering from pneumonia” and breathing without assistance, surrounded by family and his primary medical provider. He also linked Giuliani’s current health struggles to his heroic efforts during the September 11 attacks. According to Goodman, Giuliani developed restrictive airway disease due to his exposure at Ground Zero, a condition that complicated his fight against the virus and necessitated mechanical ventilation at one point.
The former mayor’s hospitalization followed concerns raised after viewers heard him coughing and noted a hoarse voice during his online talk show last Friday.
Giuliani, who served as New York City’s mayor from 1994 to 2001, has received widespread well-wishes from public figures including former President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and New York City’s current and former mayors, Zohran Mamdani and Eric Adams.
Trump, in particular, took to Truth Social to praise Giuliani as the “best mayor in the history of New York City, BY FAR,” while also revisiting his unfounded claims of election fraud. He described Giuliani as a “True Warrior” and lamented what he characterized as unfair treatment by political opponents.
As Giuliani continues his recovery, his team and supporters remain hopeful for his improved health in the coming days.
