PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — After reaching a plea deal with prosecutors, an East Providence man accused of stealing more than $126,000 from an elderly dementia patient will be sentenced later this year.
Carlos Bras, 41, of East Providence, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of mail fraud and aggravated identity theft, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island.
Prosecutors said Bras admitted that while he was working as a “relationship manager” at a Santander branch in Seekonk, he accessed the 78-year-old victim’s account and conducted “numerous unauthorized transactions” starting in or around May 2023. According to court documents, these included transferring money into his wife’s account and obtaining a debit card for personal use.
