Neighbors want speed limit reduced on Franklin County road

BOONES MILL, Va. (WDBJ) – People who live on Crowell Gap Road in the Boones Mill area of Franklin County are asking VDOT for help with a speeding problem they say puts lives at risk.

The mountain road is windy and tight, but residents say the bigger problem is speeders. The speed limit increases from 25 to 35 miles per hour where the road goes from paved to gravel.

“When I take my hay equipment across, I never know for sure whether someone’s going to come around one of these curves and slam into me. They drive faster than is reasonable,” said Larry Neuhs, whose family has lived on Crowell Gap Road since 1969. “They also think they’re out in the middle of nowhere. They can do what they want to.”…
