Causeway jumper went on crime spree involving stabbings, car thefts, robbery, police say

METAIRIE, La. — A 45-year-old man is accused of a violent crime spree across four parishes that involved 2 stabbings, a couple of stolen vehicles, attempted carjackings and a store robbery. The entire venture started around 6 a.m. in Assumption Parish and ended after he jumped off of the Causeway into Lake Pontchartrain and had to be rescued.

Police say 45-year-old Kentrell Sanders started his rampage early Wednesday in Napoleonville where he stabbed two men in different incidents, stole a truck, crashed into a car in Baton Rouge and robbed a business in St. Tammany.

Around 10:30 a.m., police say Sanders tried to carjack a vehicle at a Discount Zone gas station in Mandeville where security video showed he got into a fight with another man before getting back into the pickup and taking off…
