Jury finds Rockford man guilty of first- degree murder in 2022 CherryVale mall shooting

ROCKFORD, Ill (WTVO) —Elijah Lucena, 29, has been found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with a 2022 shooting at Cherry Vale Mall, according to the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Investigators said on April 2, 2022, Cherry Valley Police and Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the mall for reports of gunshots. Officers observed a white Dodge Charger leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Authorities later found a man, identified as 25-year-old Marcus McLin, lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. McLin was pronounced dead at the scene…
