Texas DPS gets $3.2M to boost drone security ahead of World Cup

HOUSTON — The Texas Department of Public Safety is getting new funding to strengthen security ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Houston and Dallas.

DPS announced it has received about $3.2 million in federal grant money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to improve its ability to detect and respond to drones that could pose a threat during large events.

Officials say the technology will help law enforcement spot unauthorized drones in real time and respond if needed, especially around stadiums, crowds and critical infrastructure…
