Asheville attracts outdoor enthusiasts from around the country; when it comes to epic East Coast adventures, this mountain town is in a league of its own. And we’ve found a secluded campground in North Carolina that’s just a 15-minute drive from downtown Asheville. If you’re someone who values off-the-grid camping and a primitive experience in nature, this one’s for you.
Where This Campground Is and How Close It Is to Asheville
Picture this: a spacious yet secluded single campsite with a front-row view of the Bull Mountain Ridge. It’s tucked away and completely private, yet unlike most of Western North Carolina‘s sites, this one is easy to get to. In fact, it’s tucked away in a residential neighborhood near the host’s residence, so the roads are accessible and easy to navigate. But the site where you’ll be camping is protected by woods and opens up to a stunning view.
The exact location of the campsite will be provided upon booking, but rest assured that it’s just a few miles from downtown Asheville and easy to get to by car or rideshare. Campers should note that this is not a campsite to book if you’re looking for a state park or national forest campsite, but rather if you want an easy-to-get-to site with plenty of privacy and unbeatable views year-round.
What To Expect When You Camp Here
The first thing you’ll notice upon your arrival at Bull Mountain Ridge is, of course, the view of the ridgeline, but you’ll be equally impressed by just how well-kept this site is. There’s only one site available, and it’s well-maintained. Despite its forest backdrop, the forest floor has been thoughtfully cleared to ensure that the setup is a breeze. This site can accommodate tents, travel trailers, pop-up campers, class A, B, or C RVs, campervans, truck campers (vehicles under 22 feet), cars, and rooftop tents. No more than five campers are allowed here, and pets are welcome as long as they stay on-site with you and preferably on-leash as well.
As for amenities, firewood is available for purchase, and kindling is free. Your arrival window is between 2 pm and 7 pm, though early check-ins may be accommodated if you coordinate with your host in advance. Here’s another important thing to note: there are no on-site bathrooms here. You will need to bring your own camping toilet. While this is understandably a drawback for some, most campers agree that the spacious set-up and stunning views more than make up for it.
