BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo Police Commissioner Erika Shields made her first public appearance Thursday since taking office May 4, announcing new changes to leadership at the Buffalo Police Department.
A narrow 5-4 vote from the Buffalo Common Council confirmed Shields as the city’s first female police commissioner last month. Shields said she shares the same common goal as councilmembers: “that is working for the city of Buffalo.”
Former interim commissioner Craig Macy is staying on with the department and will serve as Shields’ first deputy commissioner.
