Householder deserved his 20-year prison sentence – for far more than ‘nonviolent flim-flam’

I disagree with Thomas Suddes’ May 3 column about Larry Householder’s prison sentence (“Court’s refusal to review conviction doesn’t mean the sentence was fair”): Householder’s 20-year sentence is fair, even lenient.

The comparison made in the column was between this sentence of 20 years and a convicted murderer being eligible for parole in Ohio after 15. This ignores that Householder would probably be eligible for parole much sooner.

But, further, I object to the dismissal of Householder’s crimes as “nonviolent flim-flam.” People live and die every day based on the successes and failures of government programs that amount to millions or even thousands of dollars, while corrupt House Bill 6 authorized ratepayer costs of over $1 billion. Maybe I’m crazy, but I’d personally call this scandal a graver offense than murder…
