Keeping up with Smyrna’s growth

SMYRNA, Tenn. (WKRN) — Smyrna leaders continue to work to stay afloat as more and more people flock to the area, within one of the fastest-growing counties in the state.

The town has jumped from just under 40,000 people in 2010 to just more than 53,000 in 2020,according to the U.S. Census.

“Rutherford County’s obviously one of the fastest growing in the country. Smyrna is one of the fastest in Rutherford County,” Smyrna Town Council Member Steve Sullivan said. “We just heard they’re expecting our population to be close to 65,000, which they’re going to release in July.”

To help pay for this growth, town leaders attempted to get more state funding through a special census in 2025. However, after not getting the numbers they were expecting, they’re thankful for a new law…
