ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – This weekend, hundreds will fill Rivers Edge North Park to celebrate both art and the community through the 4th annual Daisy Art Parade. Even though the parade is moving from the streets of downtown, event organizers are making the most of it, hosting the first-ever carnival along with the parade.
People work together in “krewes,” which are social groups focused on one thing, to create the papier-mache art that they’ll use in the parade.
“The idea of the parade was to give everyone who is an artist who works in a creative way the chance to come together and celebrate,” said Brian Counihan, the parade’s organizer. “Too often, we get into our little silos about whether we’re this kind of artist or that kind of artist. Krewes are a way to bring a variety of people together to make one sort of community project.”…
