The former head of an upstate nonprofit for girls was arrested after investigators say she stole nearly $80,000 in organization funds, using them on items ranging from kayaks to a show at the Las Vegas Sphere.
Nicole S. Weigel, the former executive director of Girls on the Run Central New York, was charged Tuesday with felony second-degree grand larceny, according to State Police. While leading the nonprofit between February 2023 and September 2025, Weigel stole $79,856.88, according to the state comptroller’s office, which launched a joint investigation after State Police received a complaint in October.
Weigel, 44, of Fonda, allegedly withdrew more than $15,000 from ATMs and used the nonprofit’s debit card for personal purchases, including car rentals, hotels, restaurants, Broadway shows, a mountain bike and kayaks. On an approved trip to Las Vegas, she used funds to see a show, attend a performance at the Sphere and eat at several restaurants, the comptroller’s office said.
