Iowa City purchasing former school district headquarters for police station

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa City City Council has approved a $3.2 million purchase of the former Iowa City Community School District administrative building to house the Police Department.

The council approved the purchase Tuesday of 1725 North Dodge Street, with plans to move officers in by 2029.

The Iowa City Police Department says it has outgrown City Hall, which was built in 1959 and also houses fire and city personnel offices. This new building is more than three times the size of their current space, giving them plenty of room to grow…
