After a year spent designing, fabricating and test driving their car, members of Gonzaga University’s Baja Society of Automotive Engineers Club are preparing for their national competition against other universities this week.
“If you don’t know engineering, we build a Baja race car, which is designed around a driver’s size, usually a girl’s size, and we race them at the end of the year. We have a race coming up in Washougal, Washington, at the end of finals week,” said Danika Swanson-Rico , a freshman mechanical engineering student who will be the executive co-president for the club next year.
The competition runs from May 6-11, directly conflicting with finals week. However, club members, including Swanson-Rico, have found most professors are open to switching exam times…
