RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond is expanding its red-light camera enforcement program at three additional locations, with officials announcing Thursday that new enforcement sites will begin issuing warnings before citations later this month.
On Thursday, May 7, city officials announced a 30-day warning period beginning at three additional locations before citations are issued as part of its Safety Camera Program. Officials said the expansion is intended to improve traffic safety and reduce serious crashes at high-risk intersections, explaining that red-light running causes hundreds of deaths and tens of thousands of injuries across the U.S. each year.
The city has been working to expand the program for some time.
