Mail carriers prepare for national Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — On Saturday, residents across Kent, Allegan and Ottawa counties are encouraged to leave a bag of nonperishable food items by their mailboxes in support of the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, an initiative from the National Association of Letter Carriers.

“It’s nationwide,” said Andrea Faulkner, food drive coordinator for Branch 56 of the National Association of Letter Carriers. “It’s the single largest food drive in the country.”

With local support from Heart of West Michigan United Way, Faulkner and other mail carriers from the United States Postal Service will follow their regular routes on Saturday while picking up donations left by residents.

“We drop off those items directly at those food pantries,” Faulkner said. “It’s going to be distributed right in your community.”

In 2025, Heart of West Michigan United Way collected over 150,000 pounds of food from donations during the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive…
