Grasshoppers shut down Drive offense, 7-1

GREENSBORO (Greenville Drive) — Ivan Brethowr finished a single shy of the cycle and drove in three runs, while Greensboro’s pitching staff held Greenville to four hits Friday night as the Grasshoppers beat the Drive 7-1 in game four of the six-game series at First National Bank Field.

Greenville (14-17) was held scoreless until the ninth inning, when Mason White sent a solo homer to right field with two outs. The blast was White’s seventh of the season and accounted for the Drive’s lone run in the loss. Greensboro (19-12) took a 3-1 lead in the series with the win.

The Drive had early chances against Greensboro starter Carlos Castillo and reliever Treyson Peters, but the Grasshoppers worked out of trouble each time. Justin Gonzales opened the game with a walk and Yoeilin Cespedes followed with a single through the left side, but Gerardo Rodriguez grounded into a double play to end the threat…
