A rare virus is making headlines. A Springfield doctor says don’t panic

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A rare virus tied to a cruise ship outbreak is raising concern online, but a Springfield infectious disease doctor says people in the Ozarks do not need to panic.

Dr. Julio Nasim, an infectious disease physician with Mercy, said hantavirus can be serious, but it is also very rare and does not spread easily.

“I want to make sure that this is not going to be the next pandemic,” Nasim said. “Life as usual.”…
