Savannah Guthrie appeared deeply emotional in a heartfelt Mother’s Day tribute shared by her husband, Michael Feldman, on Sunday, May 10. The “Today Show” anchor was seen embracing her children in a poignant photo posted on Instagram, accompanied by Feldman’s message: “To the strongest person I know.
Surrounding you with love on Mother’s Day,” followed by a string of heart emojis. This marks Savannah’s first Mother’s Day since the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.
Nancy, 84, went missing from her home in the early hours of February 1, and it has now been 14 weeks since she vanished. The case is treated as a suspected kidnapping, yet despite investigations by both local police and the FBI, no breakthrough has been made. Authorities have released images of a masked individual seen tampering with Nancy’s doorbell camera just before she disappeared, but no suspect has been identified.
Savannah has openly shared the anguish she feels over her mother’s disappearance. In a recent interview with her “Today” co-host Hoda Kotb, she described the unsettling scene she encountered when she arrived at Nancy’s home after the disappearance: “The doors were propped open, there was blood on the front doorstep, and the Ring camera had been yanked off. So we were saying, ‘This is not okay.’”
She explained that the back doors were left open, which seemed unusual. Savannah and her siblings, Annie and Camron, initially speculated that Nancy might have experienced a medical emergency during the night and that paramedics had come to assist her.
“We thought maybe they came and there was a stretcher and they took her out the back,” Savannah said, “But her phone was there, her purse was there, and all her things.” She added that her mother was likely taken in the middle of the night, still in her pajamas, without shoes or medication.
Visibly emotional during the interview, Savannah questioned how anyone could live with themselves after taking such a vulnerable person from her home. “It’s just absolutely terrifying,” she said. “It’s just totally terrifying, and I can’t imagine that that is who she saw standing over her bed.”
Despite the heartbreak, Savannah shared a sense of spiritual comfort, telling Hoda, “While I feel I do need to know where my mom is, I believe God told me Nancy is with Him. So whether she’s here on Earth or in Heaven, I know where she is. I know who she’s with.”
Savannah also revealed feelings of guilt and self-blame, apologizing to her mother for any possible role she might have played in the situation. She recounted a conversation with her brother, who has a military and intelligence background.
He quickly suspected the disappearance might be a kidnapping for ransom and suggested it could be connected to Savannah herself. “I just didn’t want to believe it,” Savannah said.
“I asked, ‘Do you think it’s because of me?’ and he said, ‘Yeah, maybe.’
But I knew that. Still, we don’t know.
It would make sense, but we don’t know.”
Struggling with the weight of uncertainty, Savannah expressed her sorrow: “It’s too much to bear to think that I brought this to her, that it’s because of me. I just say I’m so sorry, Mommy.
I’m so sorry to my mom and my sister. If it’s because of me, I’m so sorry.”
As the investigation continues, Savannah Guthrie’s heartfelt words and public vulnerability highlight the profound pain and resilience she is experiencing during this difficult time.
