Getting Lit: Canal Bank Signage Proposed for 500 Pearl

Downtown’s skyline could be getting a little more glow. Canal Bank is seeking to add signs on the east and south side facades of 500 Pearl Street owned by Ellicott Development. Canal Bank is a subsidiary of Chemung Canal Trust Co. According to financial disclosures, the company opened a “representative office” in the building in March to “support the growing operations of its Canal Bank division.”

A variance is needed for the size of the internally-lit signs which the applicant, Flexlume Signs, justifies as necessary for visibility. 175 sq.ft. is allowed and 291 sq.ft. is proposed.
