BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) – As the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) moves closer to opening the new Intracoastal Waterway Bridge in Baldwin County, a temporary detour is set to begin Sunday morning, May 10, for southbound SR 161, officials say.
The detour will be in place for completion of the two southbound lanes at the north roundabout, according to ALDOT.
Beginning at 7 a.m., southbound traffic on SR 161, also known as the Beach Express, will be detoured to SR 59 via SR 308, formerly the Foley Beach Express, for drivers heading to Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Fort Morgan. Only local traffic should continue south on SR 161 until the closure at County Road 8, also known as Coastal Gateway Boulevard, officials say.
