HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — After several Hopewell residents reported smelling an unusual odor in the area Saturday evening, the city shared on Sunday that the incident was caused by the release of ammonia vapor from the nearby AdvanSix chemical facility.
During the evening on Saturday, May 9, Hopewell’s 911 Center received calls reporting an unusual odor in the area.
At around 9: 22 p.m., Hopewell County Fire and EMS responded to investigate the smell and deployed multi-gas detection meters, which identified the presence of ammonia in the surrounding area…
