Shrewsbury Fire Department relocates black bear located between two high-traffic roadways

SHREWSBURY — The Shrewsbury Fire Department and Shrewsbury Police Department assisted the Massachusetts Environmental Police with re-homing a black bear on the morning of May 10.

A passerby stopped at Station 3 to let the Shrewsbury Fire Department know he saw a lone black bear crossing in front of Station 3, heading into the woods. A couple hours later, a black bear was roaming 1000 Boston Turnpike Plaza, the former location of the Christmas Tree Shops. The bear was eventually tranquilized on Walnut Street between Route 9 and Route 20. He was loaded for transport, and his body temperature was kept cool with bags of ice…
