San Francisco’s Prop B falsely claims that a “loophole” in a 1990 term limits ballot measure opens the door for supervisors to avoid a lifetime ban. The San Francisco Chronicle, Mission Local and other sources have highlighted the plain language in the 1990 measure that states it does not impose a lifetime ban. Former Governor Jerry Brown broke from his traditional campaign silence to publicly oppose Prop B. The San Francisco chapter of the League of Women Voters also condemned the measure.
This story addresses a different Prop B falsehood. The claim that Aaron Peskin used a “loophole” to return the Board after serving two terms and is ready to run again for the Board in 2028.
I write this because I know exactly what led Peskin, after serving two terms and leaving the Board in 2011, to run again in 2015. Here’s the truth about what happened.
