‘I’m in shock. I’m numb:’ Mother of 17-year-old boy who was among 3 shot at Northwest Indiana after-prom party speaks out

PINE TOWNSHIP, Ind. — The Indiana Porter County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the shooter connected to a deadly post-prom party where three teenagers were shot, one of them killed.

One of the surviving victims is 17-year-old Jeremiah Heard. He was shot in the chest and, so far, has had two surgeries.

Heard attends Michigan City High School. The 6-foot-3 football player was captured smiling happily in photos before heading to prom on Saturday. He never expected that by the end of the night, he would be lying in a hospital bed—and his 18-year-old friend would be shot, and another boy dead.

WGN News spoke to his mother, Lucero Segovia, who says she does not want to leave her son’s side.
