EUGENE, Ore. – Protesters gathered Saturday outside the Nike store at 5th Street Market in downtown Eugene as part of the ‘Just Sign It’ campaign against Nike.
Oregon educators called for billionaires like Phil Knight to pay higher taxes as school districts face major layoffs and cuts. Protesters also rallied at Portland stores demanding that Nike pay the state $2 billion, the amount they claim the company has saved through a 30-year tax deal it secured in 2012.
“Eugene just laid off over 200 teachers, Springfield had mid-year cuts and are now talking about even more cuts at the end of the school year so it is, we are in crisis and Uncle Phil Knight and the rest of the billionaires need to pay their fair share in taxes,” Farelly said…
