EUGENE, Ore. – Beyond Toxics will distribute more than 50 air conditioners, air purifiers and replacement filters for free to west Eugene residents.
The environmental justice nonprofit will host a distribution event Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 255 Maxwell Road. The West Eugene Clean Energy Project aims to bring relief to communities most heavily impacted by climate change as temperatures increase each summer, drought persists and wildfire smoke infiltrates homes.
To qualify, residents must live within a specified boundary in west Eugene and meet at least one of several criteria. Those include being 65 years of age or older, having a low income, having a disability or health condition that increases vulnerability to heat, or being pregnant…
