Nevada man pleads guilty in $1.5 million construction fraud scheme

FRESNO, California — David Theron Ross, a 64-year-old from Sparks, Nevada, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a scheme defrauding a homebuilding company of up to $1.5 million in materials, according to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant.

Between March 2021 and December 2023, Ross and 37-year-old Eduardo Jara, of Lindsay, conspired to defraud a construction company, according to court documents. Jara, serving as Assistant Purchasing Manager, ordered building materials, while Ross, a forklift driver for the company, collected the materials to sell to local businesses. The proceeds were shared between the two, with Jara fabricating purchase orders, receipts, and invoices to falsely indicate the materials were acquired by the company. These documents were submitted to the company’s headquarters in Troy, Michigan, for payment, stated the source.
