Doctors say ‘don’t panic’ over possible hantavirus exposure in the DMV

MARYLAND (DC News Now) — Two people in Maryland are being monitored after they were potentially exposed to hantavirus, the state’s health department said on Monday.

They were on a plane abroad with a passenger who was infected after sailing on the M/V Hondius cruise ship.

These two people are just being monitored after being exposed to the virus. They aren’t sick or confirmed to be infected, the Maryland Department of Health said, adding the risk remains very low. There have been no confirmed cases of hantavirus in the state in 7 years, since 2019.
