Prince William police chief warns about rise in illegal gun conversion devices

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (7News) — Prince William County Police Chief Peter Newsham said the department is seeing growing concerns over illegal gun conversion devices and homemade firearms, warning that the weapons can dramatically increase the danger officers and residents face during violent encounters.

Speaking in an interview with 7News anchor Michelle Marsh, Newsham said investigators are increasingly encountering modified firearms capable of firing at extremely high rates, including devices commonly known as “Glock switches,” which can convert semiautomatic pistols into fully automatic weapons.
