IDFG relocates 34 elk on private land west of Emmett to north Idaho

BOISE, Idaho — Idaho Fish and Game is underway with its plan to relocate and “lethally remove” a herd of elk on private land west of Emmett as part of an effort to reduce damage to nearby agricultural fields.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game’s (IDFG) plan calls for relocating about 40 elk to areas with below-average elk populations and lethally removing about 60. Game officials unveiled the plan in January and said it was to remove the elk, which live year-round on private land owned by five landowners in Unit 32, located in Payette County.

IDFG on Monday said its crews captured 22 elk on May 4 and 15 more on May 5, for a total of 37 animals…
